The National Botanical Garden is located at the foot of the Narikala Fortress on an area of 97 hectares. One of the oldest gardens has a collection of more than 800 species of higher plants and another 3,500 subspecies.
The history of the garden begins in 1671, when it was first mentioned by the French traveler Jean Chardin. Royal Gardens – that's what they were originally called. Now there are six research departments working here, which are engaged in the revival of lost plants, the conservation of rare species, the cultivation of medicinal plants and soil protection. A greenhouse with tropical plants has been built on the territory of the garden.
It is indeed a very large garden in which to spend a pleasant day. In addition to the beautiful plants, you can watch the beautiful views towards the green gorge, relax at several waterfalls, including the Legvtakhevi waterfall, try to hug a giant sequoia, and take wonderful photos on the cypress alley.
