Rezo Gabriadze Clock Tower

The Rezo Gabriadze clock tower is one of the most striking sights of the old city. The tower was designed by Rezo Gabriadze and built in 2010. When designing, Rezo was inspired by the culture of distant Byzantium, and his desk was littered with books about the architecture of Georgia, Italy and Russia.

The clock has become a very recognizable part of the old town. And if you don't know the history that they were built in 2010, it may seem that they are several hundred years old.

About the tower

Rezo Gabriadze Clock Tower

The tower itself is a small theater. Every hour, an angel appears from the painted doors, who strikes the bell with a hammer. Twice a day — at 12:00 and 19:00 — a miniature performance "The Cycle of Life" can be seen in the tower.

The entire tower is decorated with tiles, which Rezo Gabriadze made and painted with his own hands. A pomegranate tree grows on the roof of the tower, and to the right of the tower is the entrance to the famous Rezo Gabriadze Theater, where puppet shows take place.
