This place in Latvia is known as the childhood homeland of the poet Janis Rainis. For nine years, Birkineli was the habitat of the future poet. His school years begin here, during which he studied at the Vilkamiests pastorate from 1874-1875, as well as at the Griva German School (1875-1879) – and here he spent his holidays while studying at the Riga Gymnasium.
Janis Rainis House Museum, Latvia
Janis Rainis's house has gone through an entire era in the life of the Latvian people: the owners have changed, the library, the house of culture, and even the collective farm office have found their home in the building. On November 9, 1996, after many years of ruin, the building reopened its doors to visitors as a museum.
Over the years, the Reinis House in Berkenel has become an important cultural center, where creative meetings take place, annual Poetry Days, Ligo festival, open-air exhibitions and exhibitions of professional artists are organized.
