The 25th of April Bridge (Ponte 25 de Abril) is a bridge over the Tagus River that connects the capital with Almada City. The bridge has a length of 2 km, which houses 6 automobile and 2 railway lanes. It was originally called the Salazar Bridge, but after the Revolution, the carnation received a new name, symbolizing the date of the bloodless military coup in 1974.
Many people find similarities with the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. And it's not just like that: both bridges were built by the American Bridge Company, and the shape is associated with seismic features in their locations.
