Angra do Heroísmo is the oldest city on the coast of the Azores island of Terceira. It was founded in 1478, has always served as an important port for ships crossing the Atlantic and was a favorite vacation spot of the Portuguese nobility. During the Liberal Wars, Angra do Heroísmo was the capital of Portugal. The historical center of the city is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
