Sakhalin Zoo Botanical Park is one of the largest zoos in the Far East and the only one on the territory of Sakhalin Island. Despite the fact that the park is located in extremely snowy and unfavorable climatic conditions, 1,320 animals, representing 273 species, live on an area of 8 hectares.
In addition to animals, 108 species of plants grow on the territory of the zoo botanical park. Three species (ailantholeaf walnut, pointed yew, thick-flowered or grave pine) are listed in the Red Book of Russia and two species (Sargent cherry (Sakhalin cherry) and tall aralia) they are listed in the Red Book of the Sakhalin region. On the territory you can see the Scheidecker apple tree "Weeping", petiolate oak, linden, Manchurian hazel, wild rose, gooseberry, Sakhalin fir, honeysuckle caprifol, horse chestnut, etc.
Sakhalin Zoo Botanical Park was founded in 1993.
