The Park of Culture and Recreation named after Yuri Gagarin is one of the most modern and well—maintained parks in the Far East. Winner The All-Russian competition "Crystal Wheel" in the nomination "The best landscaping project" in 2018. Visitors will find dozens of attractions, an outdoor rope park with several levels of difficulty, a space for dancing, concerts, watching movies, a children's playground, a leisure center "Teremok", where various master classes are held. But first of all, this is a unique garden, in which hundreds of species of woody and shrubby plant species grow, and in late April – early May, you can watch the cherry blossoms here.

The park was founded in 1906 during the Karafuto Prefecture period. It was originally a garden with a natural landscape in which locals could spend time. The Japanese pay special attention to water, so the garden was located along the river from which reservoirs were organized with the help of dams.
In 1938, the Oji Pond, a bike track, a baseball stadium and a ski base were created in the park. In 1946, after the liberation of Southern Sakhalin and the Kuriles from the Japanese militarists, a dance floor, a summer cinema, an amusement area, kiosks, sports fields, swimming pools for adults and children were built in the park. Benches with backs appeared on the territory.
The park received its name in 1968 in honor of the first cosmonaut Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin.
Over the past decades, the park has been incredibly transformed and continues to become even more comfortable every day.
