The museum's exhibits reflect the history of Liepaja since the founding of the city, as well as the way of life and traditions of the inhabitants of Kurzeme.
Museum of History and Art of Liepaja
Two societies were engaged in collecting museum objects in Liepaja: the Liepaja Society of Antiquities, established by German citizens in 1911, and the Liepaja Latvian Society.
The city Museum was opened on November 30, 1924. In 1935, the museum moved from its first location on Ya. Cakste Square to a respectable building built in 1901 on Kurmayas Avenue 16, where it remains to this day.
