Karosta Prison is the only garrison prison open to tourists in Europe. Today, this prison is recognized as the most amazing and unusual hotel in the world.
Karosta Prison Museum
The Liepaja garrison prison was built around 1900 for the needs of the hospital, but was never used for these purposes. From the very beginning, it served as a guardhouse or a place of short-term disciplinary punishment. In the entire history of the prison, no one has managed to escape from its walls. Revolutionaries, sailors and junior officers of the Tsarist army, German deserters, enemies of the people of the Stalin era, and soldiers of the Soviet and Latvian armies served their sentences here.
