In the very center of the old town of Kuldiga, the shallow Alekshupite River flows and the famous Alekshupite waterfall (Kuldīgās ödenskritums) with a height of 4.15 meters and a width of 8 meters is located on it.

There is a bridge and a mill dam above the waterfall. According to some sources, the bridge was built in the XIII century, and in the XVII century it was strengthened to rotate the mill wheel for the first paper mill in Kurzeme.
