Chapel of Nossa Senhora das Vitorias, São Miguel, Azores
Chapel of Nossa Senhora das Vitórias (Capela de Nossa Senhora das Vitórias, Chapel of Nossa Senhora das Vitórias Furnas) is a funerary chapel on the Azores Island of San Miguel. It was built in the 18th century in the neo-Romanesque style. This place is famous for its atmosphere of tranquility and romance, with a fabulous view of Lake Furnas from the back garden of the chapel.

The history of the Chapel of Nossa Senhora das Vitorias
Jose do Canto— a farmer from San Miguel, after his wife's incurable illness, wrote in his will (1862) that he vowed to build a small chapel in honor of the Virgin and ordered its construction to be completed. The chapel was built during the lifetime of Jose do Canto, after his death he was buried next to his wife in the chapel, thus fulfilling his wish.
