Vasco da Gama Bridge (Ponte Vasco da Gama) is the longest bridge in Portugal. It was built for the World Expo in 1998. The bridge is named after the 500th anniversary of Vasco da Gama's first arrival in India in 1498. It has a length of 12 km and six lanes. The landmark across the Tagus River has become one of the symbols of Lisbon.
