The Walls of Dom Fernando or Fernandine Walls (Muralha Fernandina, Muralhas de D. Fernando) are the ruins of medieval fortifications that were built in the 12th century from the attack of the Moors. The fortress is named after the King of Portugal, Fernando the First. Since then, only the walls between the three towers have survived, and now they are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

An observation funicular (Funicular dos Guindais) is laid along the Fernandine Wall, it connects the Ribeira embankment area with the upper district of the city of Battaglia. The journey takes about 3 minutes and during this time you can not only climb closer to the fortress of Fernandina, but also look at the entire embankment of the Douro River and the Louis I Bridge.
