The Devil's Bridge (Chertov Most) is one of the abandoned bridges built by the Japanese in 1928 during the Karafuto Prefecture. The bridge was operated as part of the Nikolaichuk — Kamyshevo-Sakhalinskoye railway, but traffic has been discontinued since 1994. The bridge is a landmark of the city of Kholmsk.

The bridge is interesting, especially for fans of abandoned buildings. Getting to it is still an adventure. I recommend setting aside a day. I didn't have a cellular network around the bridge, so it's better to go in a group. They say that wild animals can be encountered. I didn't get caught.

About the bridge

The Devil's Bridge

The Devil's Bridge has a height of 41 meters and a length of 125 meters. The bridge offers stunning views.

How to get

You can only get to the bridge on foot. It is necessary to get to the village of Nikolaichuk, and then walk along the railway track. Part of the way will go through two tunnels, which are quite cold and very dark. We recommend taking warm clothes and powerful flashlights.

The tunnel on the way to the Devil's Bridge

Another option is that in the summer, an electric train runs twice a day to the Chertov Most station (75 km), which stops in front of the tunnel under the bridge.

After crossing the bridge further, you can reach another abandoned "Witch's Bridge".
