Lake Busse is a lagoon that connects to the Sea of Okhotsk by the strait of Suslov. The water in the lake is salty, but the concentration of salts (from 24.7 to 31.3‰) lower than at sea (34.8‰). This creates a unique ecosystem in which Ahnfeltia algae grows, giant oysters, sea urchins, shrimp, scallop, mussels, as well as fish — salmon, herring, smelt, navaga.

Environmental restrictions apply to almost the entire territory of the lake, including a ban on any economic activity, hunting, fishing, picking berries, mushrooms and plants. Sport hunting and fishing are allowed in exceptional places.
Gastronomic excursions are a popular entertainment, where you can explore the fauna of the lake, taste fresh oysters or collect a catch and cook at special sites.
Busse Lake
The unique natural monument was named in honor of a member of the Nevelsky expedition, the first chief of Sakhalin Island, Major General Nikolai Vasilyevich Busse.
