The National Park of Jökulsárgljúfur was founded in 1973, and is attached to the Vatnayeküdl National Park. Its area is 150 square kilometers, and very close is one of the largest waterfalls in Europe: Dettifoss.
This park captures with its views of the diversity and uniqueness of volcanic mountains and canyons. As a result of a powerful eruption with a mixture of rocks, steam and water, what is now called Yekulsaurglyuvur was formed.
