The Sigurgeir Bird Museum (Fuglasafn Sigurgeirs) is the most extensive private bird collection in Iceland. Sigurgeir Stefansson was a famous Icelandic bird collector and naturalist who began collecting bird specimens as a boy, and this interest remained with him for the rest of his life.
Sigurgeir's Bird Museum
Sigurgeir had amassed an impressive collection of stuffed birds and eggs, and people came to look at it in his barn on the farm. He planned to build a more spacious building to house the collection, but died in an accident. However, his family made his dream come true, and the museum opened in 2008. Currently, more than 300 stuffed birds and about 500 eggs are stored here, which is an ideal place for visitors to explore the bird life in the Mivatn area.
