Suðurnes is located in the southwestern part of the country. Geographically, it occupies a large part of the Reykjavik Peninsula. The area of Sudurnes is 829 km².

To the west and south of the Sudurnes region lies the Atlantic Ocean; to the north of it lies the Hevudborgarsweidid region. The region includes two cities: Keflavik, the center of the region, and Grindavik.
