The Musée de Mouassine, now the Musée de la Musique, is located in the heart of the Medina in a house of the Saadi period of the 16th and 17th centuries. In addition to the large exhibition, the museum holds musical evenings three times a week.
The exposition of the Music Museum
Moroccan music is very diverse and depends on the influence of culture and history of geographical regions and social groups. The music of Morocco includes Arabic, Berber, Andalusian, Mediterranean, Saharan, West African and other trends and styles. The Music Museum introduces the most common music styles of Morocco.
The museum is located in a renovated house of the 16th and 17th centuries, which has an apartment on the top floor, known as douiria.
Duiria at the Mouassine Museum
The Duiria is a quadrangular room covered with a wooden ceiling with a central skylight. On both sides of the room there are large niches that served as seating areas and are protected by their own wooden canopies or ceilings. The other two sides of the cabin have large doorways leading to side rooms that could be used as bedrooms or additional rooms.
Every day from 09:30 to 19:00, musical evenings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 18:00 to 19:00
