Purple Island or officially Jazirat bin Ghanim (Jazirat bin Ghanim) on the east coast of the country, near the city of Al Khor is a favorite place for locals, where it is pleasant to come on weekends to switch from the hustle and bustle of the city. Lush foliage of the mangrove forest, pleasant coolness and unity with nature.
The island got its name back in the second millennium BC — shellfish were mined here, from which the most expensive and rare dye, royal purple, was obtained. In addition, the island was used as a trading camp with Bahrain.
The nature of the island has remained untouched, so there are many small fish and crabs here, and in winter you can see flamingos.
You can walk to the island over a long bridge or take a kayak, renting it. This is a great place to set up a small tent camp, enjoy the sunset, the starry sky or the sunrise.
