Ponta dos Rosais Lighthouse, San Jorge, Azores

Ponta dos Rosais Lighthouse (Farol dos Rosais) is an abandoned lighthouse in the far west of the island of San Jorge. It was built in 1958 and was the most powerful and modern lighthouse in Portugal at that time. As a result of the 1964 earthquake, the optics were damaged, which was soon replaced and the lighthouse worked until 1980, when an even more powerful earthquake occurred in the Azores.
