The Republic of Karelia is located in the northwestern part of Russia, washed by the White Sea in the northeast and has the longest border in Russia with the European Union in the west. Karelia is known for its unique nature, culture and history.
The area of Karelia is 180,520 km² and is comparable to countries such as Syria, Cambodia or Belarus. The length from north to south is 660 km, and from west to east – 424 km.
