Overview of The Rector's Palace

The Rector's Palace, Dubrovnik, Croatia

Every month, one of the members of the Board of the Republic of Dubrovnik was elected prince and settled in the palace. There was a sign above the entrance: OBLITI PRIVATORUM PUBLICA CURATE "Forget personal matters, think about the state." According to the law, the prince, who was on a mandate, could not leave the palace building, so all living conditions were created for him. There are various utility, utility and working rooms on the territory of the palace. There is also a courtroom and a conference room, a small prison, an ammunition depot and an armory.

When the prince lived in the palace, the city gates were locked at night, and the keys were kept in the lock. Over the years, the castle was destroyed and subjected to natural disasters, but it was restored every time. The palace was considered the residence of the princes until 1808.

The main facade of the building is decorated with two side towers, which have not changed much. The palace was renovated by architect Onofrio della Cava. The statue crowning the upper part of the building was designed by the Italian Pietro di Martino.

Today, the Rector's Palace in Croatia houses the cultural and historical department of the Dubrovnik Museum with halls, the interior of which is filled with antiques, antique furniture and household items, as well as paintings by Italian and local masters. The museum has a collection of coins and weapons, as well as items from the Domus Christi pharmacy of the XV century.

Musical concerts are regularly held in the atrium of the The Rector's Palace — the acoustics in the room are very good.
