Matanzas is a city located on the northern coast of the island state. It is known as the “City of Bridges” because of the numerous bridges spanning the three rivers of the city. Matanzas is also known for its vibrant culture, which is reflected in its architecture, music and art.

Overview

Matanzas was founded in 1693 and has since become an important port city. There are a number of historical attractions, including Castillo de San Severino, a fort built in 1745 to protect the city from pirates. The city is also home to the Sauto Theater, one of the oldest theaters in the Caribbean.
