Africa is the second largest continent after Eurasia, which includes the coasts of the Mediterranean and Red Seas, the shores of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. In addition to the mainland, the adjacent islands belong to Africa.

The area of the mainland without islands is 29.2 million km², and including islands - 30.3 million km². There are 55 countries in Africa and about 1.46 billion people live there.
