North America is the third largest continent in the world after Asia and Africa and the fourth most populous after Asia, Africa and Europe, stretching from the Aleutian Islands in the northwest to the Isthmus of Panama in the south. The continent includes Greenland and the Arctic Archipelago. The total area of the territory is about 25 million km², which is approximately 16.5% of the land area of the Earth.
The European colonization of North America has led to the fact that the cultures of the region mainly reflect European traditions and values. However, in some small areas, called reservations, there still remains an indigenous population who continue to adhere to pre-colonial cultural and linguistic traditions.
