Wat Tham Sua Temple

Wat Tham Suea Temple is a Theravada Buddhist monastery in western Thailand, in the province of Krabi. The Tiger Cave itself is located under a 270-meter-high cliff. The name of the Temple arose because of the similarity of the shape of the rock with the tiger's claw, all temple attributes include images of a tiger. The rock is wonderfully inscribed into the surrounding terrain, and from a height there is an amazing view of the entire province of Krabi.

About the temple

Tiger Cave Temple, Krabi

Theravada is one of the first Buddhist schools to create a Buddhist written canon. The Buddhist Pali canon — Tipitaka ("Three Baskets of Wisdom") for Theravada is the highest authority of the Dhamma - the teachings of the Buddha and the organization of the Sangha (community of monks and nuns).

You can get to the top of the sacred mountain only by climbing 1,237 steps. Therefore, in order to pay homage or pray at the Buddha statue, sitting surrounded by picturesque views, you will have to overcome a difficult path. Followers of Buddhism come to the Tiger Temple on a pilgrimage mission to walk their way to the shrine along the "Path of Purification" and gain enlightenment, and ordinary tourists climb for an incredible view of the entire province of Krabi.

The Wat Tham Sua Temple complex (Tiger Cave Temple) consists of several interconnected parts – a cave temple, a Chinese-style pagoda, the temple itself and a walking trail.

The legendary Tiger Cave consists of a central hall located in a huge rocky grotto, as well as a small cave altar. As in all Thai temples, it is customary to leave offerings here.

For tourists, the main exhibits in the Temple of the Tiger are sculptures and statues located under the real stone arches of the cave.

There are no tigers in the Tiger cave for a long time, but you can get acquainted with monkeys. The rules of behavior with these harmless animals are simple: you should not feed and tease the monkeys, and then their attitude towards you will be peaceful, at least curious.

The observation deck at the top of the sacred mountain offers stunning panoramas of the province of Krabi.
