The museum was founded on the territory of the Bystrinsky Nature Park, the place of residence of indigenous peoples.
Initially, it was an architectural complex of the Cossack prison in the style of Russian architecture of the XVII-XVIII centuries, which included a command hut, a defense tower, a barn for storing household items and horse harnesses. A few years later, the building of the exhibition hall was erected, which fit into the general architectural style.
In 2003, the Koryak semi-underground dwelling of the XIX century and the Koryak warehouse were built. On the territory of the museum there is a composition of wooden mythological carved sculptures in the open air.
The museum's collections include more than 1,700 unique museum items. The museum houses a rare collection of Even shamanic objects of scientific value.
