According to numerous legends, Budva was originally an Illyrian city. Already in the II century BC, Budva fell under the rule of the Romans. At that time, trade was very developed on its territory, mainly in grapes and olives. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the period of Byzantine rule began in Budva. The struggle of the Budvanians against Byzantium began in 535. The fall of Byzantine rule occurred after the arrival of the Nemanich dynasty on the territory of the former Montenegrin coast.

As it is written in the "Instructions of Philo of Bilbos" of the II century AD, the foundation of Budva is associated with the founder of the city Teba, a mythical figure and the son of the Phoenician king Agemor – Cadmus. Namely, Cadmus and his wife Harmony were expelled from Thebes at an advanced age and went to the land of the Angels on ox carts, where they founded the new city of BUTO – Budva. According to legend, it was thanks to the oxen that Budva got its name (Bous – Greek for Bull).

Mogren is one of the most famous beaches in Budva, located at the foot of the cliffs within walking distance from the historical center of Budva, the Old Town.
