Akershus Castle and Fortress is a medieval castle, a fortress around it and a royal residence. Built in 1299, it turned into a fortress in 1592 and was rebuilt into a castle during the Renaissance in the 1640s.
Akershus
During its more than 700-year history, the fortress has been besieged more than once, but has never been captured by enemy forces. Today, this landmark, located in the heart of Oslo, turns into a park with green oaks in summer, while continuing to remain a military fortress under the administration of Akershus kommandantskap.
